Knights of Columbus

An Introduction to the Knights of Columbus:

It is now easier than ever for Christian men to be part of the Knights of the Columbus.  While many men express the interest in the Knights, they also say that they are busy devoting their time to involvement with their families in various organizations and activities: various athletics such as Basketball, Soccer, etc or Scouts, coaching teams, or just generally being involved with your children.

A new pilot program in New Jersey allows you to join through the internet in a manner that can be the beginning of your experience in the Knights.  This membership allows you to participate in meetings, activities, to have access to various insurance products which help protect your family, and to receive various Knights mailings including our magazine.

With these mailings you can read about the Knights and how they are active in their parish, their faith, and the communities they live in.

Either stop and ask us any questions or if you wish to explore this on your own the website is www.kofc.org/joinus.  When you do this, please note joining puts you into a state pool of members and that if you wish to be a part of our council here, you can note that and say you wish to be a part of Hightstown Council #6284.

Building the Domestic Church

Building the domestic churchIn his recent apostolic exhortation, Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis asks, “Who is making an effort to strengthen marriages, to help married couples overcome their problems, to assist them in the work of raising children and, in general, to encourage the stability of the marriage bond?”*

Dear Brother Knight,

Last week, Supreme Knight Anderson’s op-ed piece in The Washington Post stated that the situation of genocidal victims in the Middle East is a gross injustice and a blight on America’s foreign policy record.

In fact, the article continued, it is de facto discrimination against the Islamic State’s most vulnerable victims.

You can read the full article by clicking here.

Help us raise awareness about Iraqi Christians and the aid they so desperately need. Please share this op-ed with friends, family members and on social media. You may also want to take action to help these Christians by donating at christiansatrisk.org.

Knights of Columbus Hightstown Council 6284

Following a week of violence across the United States, the Knights of Columbus has called for a novena of prayer to heal the wounds and divisions afflicting this country.

Knights, their families and all people of good will are encouraged to join in the novena (nine days of prayer) that will run through July 22 by praying St. Francis of Assisi’s Prayer for Peace:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

“The violent episodes of the past week have shocked the conscience of our country,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “Through this prayer, each of us has the opportunity to help transcend hatred and violence by personally committing to the concepts of love of neighbor, peace and forgiveness that are central to an authentic embrace of Christianity. It is our hope that, from coast to coast, those who pray this prayer will become true instruments of peace.”

Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore also urged people to join this prayer campaign: “During this Year of Mercy, let us pray for an end to violence and senseless killings,” he said. “Through our prayers and good works, may we help build a society that is merciful, just and peaceful.”

What Catholics Should Know About Islam

From a report submitted to Secretary of State John Kerry by the Knights of Columbus and In Defense of Christians:

On December 4, the Knights of Columbus National Assembly issued a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry at which time they presented him a report, part of which follows.

“ISIS has a magazine called Dabiq, named after the place where ISIS believes it will win a battle against the army of Rome. It routinely refers to Dabiq as the location where it will destroy the “Crusader army,” an unmistakable Christian reference. The magazine last year published a picture of Pope Francis, captioning him as “the crusader pope.” Dabiq proclaims ISIS’ intention to destroy Christians:

We will conquer your Rome, break your crosses, and enslave your women, by the permission of Allah, the Exalted. This is His promise to us; He is glorified and He does not fail in His promise. If we do not reach that time, then our children and grandchildren will reach it, and they will sell your sons as slaves at the slave market.“
